Like all fields…
Inspiration
Fluctuates
The movement begins even before birth
Though we were separate by then
The neural pathways well laid, apart
It’s a design feature to be ready early
Some more than others
First movement
Then memory
Then the long social climb
Lord knows
Separation after separation
Still modest in numbers
Compared to some
There are just billions of us now
Low single digits
It’s good to check
Consider arbuscular
Mycorrhizal fungi
Consider
Our past recedes logarithmically
It becomes clear
The occasional distant cousins
Are more closely shared
Chances are
There was
Incest now and then
We’re closer
Than we think
Consider the millions of us driving
The brain, a skilled prediction machine
And what lies beyond
The stories we tell ourselves
The fewer and fewer
Of us
There are
Yet still
Delightfully
Frighteningly
We’re the same
