The Scattering of Place

I continue to organize my work here to explore the emotional and rhythmic similarities of disparate subjects. Or perhaps this just another stab at ‘random,’ an effort to capture the erratic scattering of place, insight, and feeling from which we otherwise distill coherence, meaning, and purpose—sharing images of uncertain weight and meaning but striving to see the commonalities. I also continue to experiment with AI to develop images of ambivalence and mystery, despite the conundrum of the subjective intelligence of AI. Unexpected and unintended outcomes are maybe to be expected. Ultimately, my work is the finely edged present laid against the vastness of time. Self-indulgent or not, my work is ultimately about feeling and not restraint and good order. As Frederick Nietzsche writes in The Birth of Tragedy, it is in our very nature to “take delight in the immediate apprehension of form; all forms speak to us; there is nothing indifferent, nothing superfluous.” Such is the plasticity of self, image and story.
