The Final Fool?
The Subtle Stone Eater, “El Sutil Comepiedras.” An ironic title for this bronze and obsidian sculpture by Jonás Gutiérrez on Puerto Vallarta’s Malecón? Is this an allegory for fruitless and unrestrained consumption? Dissipation heedless of the costs? Is this reference to the myth of Cronus? An end to the sacrificing of children in the battle for dominance? My children, not yours? The swaddling of a stone? From the bottomless depths to the final drop in the ballooning emptiness, the final fool?
