Visiting Artist — The Scattering of Light
I was invited by the Image City Photography Gallery in Rochester to join an exhibit in 2023 as a visiting artist, October 31 – November 25. My piece “The Scattering of Light and the Shadow of Memory” was a gallery pick. In the words of Don Menges, a gallery partner, “While you are looking at Mike Nyerges’s photographs you will notice that you are not in Kansas anymore Dorothy!”
These images reflect my experimenting with photomontage and Intentional Camera Movement, ICM. Photomontage empowers me to overcome the limits of photography’s fixed moment and to create unique compositions. With ICM and long exposures, I can create vivid abstract and expressionistic images such as these.
